The foundations laid over the previous two years paved the way for arguably the most successful season in the BBL-era Leopards’ history. Renamed, the Playboy TV Leopards (not even the most ridiculous name in British basketball history), The Big Cats won the National Cup with a win against Sheffield Sharks on their own court and sealed the league title with two games to spare. Twenty-eight of Leopards’ 36 league games were won but possibly the most famous game in the whole 25 seasons of this history came at Wembley Court where the Big Cats overturned a 22 point second half deficit to defeat London Towers 92-91.
Their hopes of a treble were dashed by a heart-breaking single-point defeat against Towers at Wembley (in another final played at their opponents venue) and their cross-town rivals also ended their Trophy hopes at the quarter-final stage. It was a wonderful time to be a Leopards’ fan, though!
